The Surrey Constabulary Motor Cycle Club was formed in January 1975 by Sgt. Alan Bridgman and Christopher Kay. These two heroes had done their motorcycle patrolman training together, were both mad about motorbikes and were keen to put Surrey Constabulary on the motorcycling map. At the time the Chief Constable was not at all keen to be associated with motorcyclists, but they ignored him and carried on regardless. Whilst this bold move did not necessarily enhance their careers, it certainly achieved their objective of spreading the enjoyment of motorcycling.
The primary aim of the club and its members has always been to enjoy whatever is being done, and this aim has been consistently achieved. We haven't won at everything we've ever done, and we haven't lost at everything we've ever done, but we certainly have laughed at everything we've ever done, and we thoroughly recommend the practice!
Although Surrey Constabulary had no official motorcycle club until 1975 it's a fact that the traditional CsMA 'Services' Trial originated in 1946 when Surrey Police motorcyclists turned up at a trial, on duty, and asked to have a go at the course. Thereafter police and military teams were invited to compete.
It took us 14 years to gain enough experience to run our own trial, but it was well worth the wait, and we now run an annual three stage "Bike Surreypol" Trial together with one of the biggest regional Enduro competition events.
